About me
Hi, my name is Madalena Barros! ⭐
I am a 23 years old university student. I'm finishing my Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico.
Currently, I am writing my thesis, which focuses on accelerating quantum simulators using different protocols (OpenMP) or GPUs. (See Featured Research below).
When I am not benchmarking quantum simulators, I'm interning at TripGoGo, building RAG pipelines and doing a bit of quality assurance to ensure the model's outputs are realistic and reliable.
I also have a background in frontend development through my work at KPMG and NEECIST. These experiences taught me how to bridge real-world requirements with web design. A key example was my work at KPMG, where I built a custom user interface for an internal AI chatbot to streamline employee workflows.
My Master's thesis
High-Performance Computing & Quantum Simulation
Accelerating Quantum Circuit Simulation
Leveraging the Deucalion HPC System
My thesis focuses on accelerating quantum circuit simulators using hybrid parallelism (MPI/OpenMP) and GPU offloading. Working with the Deucalion supercomputer enables multi-node benchmarking to study scaling limits, memory bottlenecks, and performance/accuracy trade-offs across simulation backends.
